The National Collegiate Conference Association (NCCA) currently offers several scholarship programs to assist new and diverse delegations in building a successful Model UN program culminating in attending the NMUN-NY conference. Funds are not currently available for programs outside New York. The NCCA believes that our NMUN simulations benefit from participation of diverse populations. We define diversity in ethnic, gender, and international terms. We do not believe in quotas for any group.
-
Diversity-Building Scholarship Initiative (DBSI) – a three-year award ($5,000 in year one, $2,500 in year two, and fee waivers in the third year) for US schools not previously attending NMUN-NY. Two awards will be given each year. Applying schools should have diverse populations; many past recipients have been Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Applications due 15 Oct. for the next NMUN-NY (spring).
-
Educational Scholarship Fund - four $1,000 grants and four $500 grants to fully registered schools based on genuine financial need to help meet the goal of participation by diverse populations. Half of the awards in each funding level will be granted to schools outside the U.S. Applications due 15 Oct. Schools must have completed a separate application for NMUN-NY and paid registration fees by 15 Oct. One of these awards is named for Brian John Hayden who served as a Secretary-General of NMUN-NY and as President of the Board of the NCCA, which sponsors the NMUN.
-
International Scholarship – a three-year award for schools in developing countries not previously attending NMUN-NY. One award is announced each year. Past recipients included delegations from Iraq, Afghanistan and Latvia. Application is by invitation only and requires the endorsement of an NCCA Board member to be considered. Awards are typically awarded for two years in the future, for example in 2008 we will make a three-year award for 2010-2012 NMUN-NY ($5,000 in year one, $2,500 in year two, and fee waivers in the third year).

NCCA has established two scholarship funds to continue adding diverse voices to our New York conferences: the Diversity-Building Scholarship Fund and the International Scholarship Fund. The international fund will focus on assisting delegations from developing countries while the diversity-building fund will offer grants to encourage diverse voices among the U.S. colleges and universities attending.
Gifts designated to these funds will help build an endowment. Interest revenue will be dedicated to scholarships and supplemented with other resources as these endowments grow.
In 2007, delegations from Afghanistan, Ghana, Guyana, India, Iraq, Kazakhstan and Poland completed the registration process but ultimately were unable to raise the needed funds to attend. NCCA is appealing to both foundations and individuals to help schools like these. You can help us match the commitment of our participants by contributing.
To learn more or to donate, visit www.collegiateconference.org/give.htm.
Gifts are tax deductible to the full extent of U.S. law. U.S. Government employees may also donate through the Combined Federal Campaign Code 11538.
